Rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield CBE is set to travel to Glasgow as part of his latest fundraising challenge for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
The former Leeds Rhinos captain will appear in memory of his friend Rob Burrow, who died of MND in June.
This will be Sinfield’s fifth annual challenge for the MND community, having raised almost £10 million in the first four events.
He and his team will complete a 50km loop around the city on December 4, starting at Ibrox at 7am.
The route will include stops at the Jimmy Johnstone statue at Celtic Park and Firhill, and will finish at Scotstoun.
This year’s challenge has the slogan ‘Run Home for Christmas’ as day seven finishes in Sinfield’s home area of Saddleworth.
Members of the public can sponsor Sinfield at https://tinyurl.com/4cmyverp or by texting Kevin10 to 70143 to make a donation.
Jonathan Mitchell, Head of Fundraising at MND Scotland, said: “Kevin Sinfield is an inspiration and a hugely respected figure in the MND community in Scotland.
“What he has achieved in his last four challenges is phenomenal and we can’t wait to welcome him to Glasgow on December 4.”
Paul Thompson, director of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, said: “We are impressed with Kevin.
“Doddie waved him off at Murrayfield for his 2022 challenge, whilst telling him about his neon trainers.
“He would have been proud of all that Kevin continues to achieve for the MND community.”
The week-long challenge will begin on December 1, with Sinfield and the team covering more than 50km a day, visiting seven regions across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Each day will be divided into 7km blocks, in tribute to his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, who wore the number seven during his career at Leeds Rhinos.
