Mohamed Salah says he is yet to receive a new contract offer from Liverpool and feels “more on the sidelines than in” as the end of his existing contract nears.
The 32-year-old once again showed his importance to the Reds as his two goals helped them come from behind to win 3-2 at Southampton on Sunday, but his post-match comments will increase fans’ fears fans that the Egyptian could leave for free. in summer.
“Well, it’s almost December and I haven’t received any offers to stay at the club yet,” Salah told reporters. “I’m probably more outside than inside.
“You know I have been at the club for many years. There is no club like this. But ultimately, it’s not in my hands. As I said before, it’s December and I haven’t received anything about my future yet.
Salah is one of three key Liverpool players who will soon enter the final six months of their contracts, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also out of contract this summer.
All three will be free to talk to foreign clubs in January if they do not sign an extension before then.
Questions over their future are currently one of the few dark clouds hanging over Anfield, with Sunday’s victory putting Arne Slot’s side eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Asked if he was disappointed at not receiving an offer from Liverpool, Salah added: “Of course, yes. I love the fans. The fans love me. Ultimately, it’s not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.
“I’m not retiring anytime soon so I’m just playing, focusing on the season and trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League too. I’m disappointed but we’ll see.
Liverpool remain in contact with Salah’s agent and it is understood the conversations have been positive.
The club did not expect the future of its highest-paid player to be resolved quickly, but does not intend to comment publicly on the progress of discussions.
