Liverpool receive major boost ahead of Real Madrid-Man City double-header

Liverpool have received a major boost ahead of their return to the Premier League this weekend.

The Reds have had a fantastic start to life under Arne Slot, who has so far overseen a rather smooth transition following the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.

Slot has won 15 of his first 17 matches and his team sits first in the Premier League and Champions League table.

The Merseyside giants will also be hot favorites to claim another victory when domestic football returns this weekend.

Liverpool travel to struggling Southampton on Sunday and could welcome back a key player for their trip to the south coast.

Alisson Becker has missed his last seven games in all competitions after suffering a hamstring injury in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in early October, but has been pictured returning to training.

Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher replaced him in his absence and was praised by Slot, although few would doubt the Brazilian’s return would be a major boost for the club.

The fixtures will continue to pile up quickly ahead of the hectic festive schedule and Liverpool will then face a huge doubleheader, with Real Madrid and Manchester City expected at Anfield.

Later this week, Slot is expected to provide further updates regarding Liverpool’s other injured players. Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa all missed games before the international break and it remains to be seen when they will return.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has withdrawn from the England squad for their Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland, but it is hoped the right-back will be fit for the upcoming matches.
