GREENOCK Golf Club’s dominance continued for a fourth consecutive year as they were crowned Inverclyde Golf Team Champions for 2024.
Despite a tight competition, nothing could stop the Greenock team from lifting the trophy once again, this time at Port Glasgow Golf Club.
The event brought together 12 teams from Greenock Golf Club, Port Glasgow Golf Club and Whinhill Golf Club. Gourock Golf Club were unfortunately unable to participate in this year’s event.
The organization of the tournament means that the event takes place at one of four golf clubs on an annual rotation.
This year’s edition saw Port Glasgow lucky enough to host the event and competitors were able to enjoy a course in very good condition.
The format saw nine four-ball matches played over the course of the day, with each club playing three matches against two other clubs.
In a fierce contest, which saw some superb shots played in good conditions, the 12-man Greenock team edged Port Glasgow by just one point as they finished their tie, winning by 4.5 points to Port Glasgow’s 3.5.
The quality of the golf on show did not drop, meaning that every match of the day came down to the wire, with the 17th or 18th holes becoming the deciding factor more often than not, so it was a great competition, played in the usual good spirit.
After an exciting competition, a spokesperson for Inverclyde Golf thanked all the clubs involved.
In a statement to the Telegraph They said: “Thank you to the three golf clubs, especially the team captains for deploying teams at the event.
“Inverclyde Golf would like to thank Port Glasgow Golf Club for hosting the event.”
