Wesley Fofana has confirmed he is considering leaving Chelsea this summer.
The French centre-back has had an injury-plagued first two seasons with the Blues, with two serious knee injuries limiting him to 15 appearances in his first campaign and zero in his second.
Fofana has played every minute of Enzo Maresca’s start to the Premier League season, establishing himself as a key player for the new manager, but has confirmed he is open to a move to his hometown club Marseille during the transfer window after contact was made.
“I had a conversation [this summer] “It really affected me,” Fofana told Free Foot. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t weigh up the pros and cons. [Mehdi] Benatia, the sports director of Marseille.”
“It touched me and I think everyone knows why,” added Fofana, who grew up near Marseille but never played for the club. “I thought about it but the goal right now is to succeed at Chelsea, to try to play regularly and to establish myself at my club.”
“We’ll see one day. I still have a contract until 2029 and we’ll see after that. I’ve never hidden it, [Marseille] “It’s my city, my club, I’m an OM supporter. We’ll see if I end up in Marseille in a few years, or if I stay at Chelsea for the rest of my career.”
