Ben White has asked not to be contacted by England, confirms Lee Carsley

Lee Carsley has confirmed that Ben White is still not interested in playing for England.

The Arsenal defender has not been selected for the Three Lions squad since leaving the 2022 World Cup camp midway through the tournament for “personal reasons”.

White has since become one of the Premier League’s best right-backs but has remained determined not to play for his country.

Speaking last month when his first squad as caretaker manager was announced, Carsley said: “I’ve seen in some of the press reports that [White] was open to [returning]but it didn’t go any further.

“So as far as I know he was not available for selection. Nothing has changed in my two weeks here.”

Carsley has won his first two games in charge, with right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold among his most impressive players.

Asked about White’s case Tuesday night, Carsley said he had no plans to speak to White until after the team’s next announcement.

“I have no plans to [speak to White]”No,” he told reporters. “We talked about it when we were selecting the team. Every player who is eligible to play for England has a chance.”

“As far as I know, he asked not to be contacted.”

Asked about White’s responsibility to return to the squad, Carsley said: “Yes. It’s important that we have real competition across the field and the more competitors we have to choose from the better.”
